VEERA works with small and marginal farmers on sustainable agricultural practices for improved crop yield and sustainable livelihoods. Some of the activities include promotion of organic and sustainable manure and fertilizers such as vermi-compost, introducing modern farming techniques such as integrated nutrient management, intercropping and mixed cropping, high yield seed varieties, and promotion of organic garden farming.
Through training, combined with low cost low technology techniques, these projects work to recharge ground water, ensure safe and clean sources of drinking water and enable communities to use and harvest water sources sustainably for personal and agricultural use.
Tree plantation campaigns are run in combination with environmental education and awareness across VEERA's projects on an annual basis.
Promotion, facilitation and installation of renewable energy sources are implemented through biogas and solar energy projects and initiatives. Currently, solar energy was promoted through making sustainable microcredit and solar products available at village level.
By engaging the informal e-waste sector the initiatives aim to foster responsible e-waste disposal and recycling, implicating both public health and the environment. VEERA e-waste project is being implemented in Uttarakhand, to collect 500 tons of e-waste.
